The story behind the Kevin Mullin Memorial Fund

About the Fund

Kevin Mullin

Sixteen year old Kevin Mullin's life changed dramatically on December 14, 2000 when he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. From that day on, Kevin showed a tremendous amount of courage and hope that he would beat this disease. He compared this challenge to the most important cross country race of his life. He was not going to let this disease beat him. Although Kevin lost his battle with the brain tumor on August 9, 2001, he never gave up hope for a cure.

Kevin Mullin Memorial Stone

It is because of this hope that the Annual Kevin J. Mullin Memorial 5K Run/Walk was begun in April of 2002. Kevin's family wishes to keep Kevin's infinite hope and courage alive by raising funds for research so that someday a cure will be found so that no other children or adults will have to face such a devastating disease. Thus far Kevin's run has raised over $413,000.00 for brain tumor research at Nationwide Children's Research Institute, The American Brain Tumor Association, and the Ohio State University Cancer Research. Kevin's family wishes to continue this effort and continue to raise funds and awareness of this disease.

We will be having another fundraiser in 2026 but plans are not finalized yet. Check back for updates. You can also send a donation to The Kevin Mullin Fund, 1398 Morrison Farms East Drive, Blacklick, OH 43004. All proceeds will benefit brain tumor research. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and good things never die."

Our Impact

Since the fund was established, we have raised over $413,000 for brain tumor research. These funds have supported research at:

  • Nationwide Children's Research Institute
  • American Brain Tumor Association
  • Ohio State University Cancer Research Fund

Our annual fundraiser brings together family, friends, and community members who share Kevin's dream of finding a cure. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer to that goal.
